Partial Oxidation of ethane into acetaldehyde and acrolein by oxygen over silica-supported bismuth catalysts.

Selective oxidation of ethane by oxygen was examined over silica supporting cesium and bismuth. Aldehydes of C1-C3 were obtained with total selectivity of about 40% at ethane conversion lower than 5%. (1)
In this process a fixed flow reactor was used at atmospheric pressure; 600mg were placed in the middle of the reactor; the reaction gas mixture consisted of 75 vol % C2H6 and 25 vol % O2; this products were passed through the catalyst bed at a flow rate of 30 ml/min.
